Young Alan's Rippling Leg Muscles Make Short Work Of This Hill.

Saturday 20th May - Burgh And The Fossil Tree

Well today’s ride was not planed as the weather was not to be good so looking out the window to see a dry road was a surprise. A quick phone call to Alan and a discussion on the wetness of the ground and we decided to go to Burgh and the fossil tree.

I got all my gear together and jumped in the van to head to Salen to pick up Alan and then drive onto Tiroran where we parked the van and set out along the 4 mile road to burgh. The wind was in our face all the way there.

We reached the end of the road and headed further on a sheep track for ¾ of a mile before we decided to leave the bikes and walk the last mile. It is an impressive sight round the coast at the Wilderness with the basalt columns and white geodes set in the rocks and the high cliffs not so impressive was the stench of the dead cow or sheep we passed on the way.

Basalt Columns

It is very rocky along the way and we had to climb down a ladder that is bolted onto the cliff not for the faint hearted.

We reached the fossil tree had a quick look took some photos and started back to the bikes and the 4 mile ride back to the van with the wind at our backs and the last mile all steep downhill to the van and home for lunch albeit a late lunch.
