Loch Ba

Saturday the 6th of May

Saturdays ride which saw Bryan and Alan doing a trip round loch Ba and over the hill to Glenforsa. The ride started from Alan’s house in Salen and heading out the Free for Gruline house with the intention of heading along the north shore of loch Ba.

Leaving the main road and heading up towards the loch we had to go through a farm steadings. On going through a gate we were set upon by an elderly woman who informed us we could not carry on any further as it was private, so to keep the piece we did as she asked knowing full well the laws on access rights but not sure on the classification of her “garden” but with full intention to find out and returning at another date.

So heading back to the main road we turned left and headed for the south side of Loch Ba. The weather was glorious sunshine with a strong wind and the ride up the loch side passed quickly. Reaching the end of the loch we followed it round und started climbing up towards the start of the Glen that leads across to Glenforsa. This was a very wet and muddy part of the trip and we were glad to reach the road leading down out of Glenforsa.

There is a river beside the road and we both gave our bikes and selves a good dunking  before heading down the glen at great speed with the wind at our backs and turning onto the main road for a short bit on the main road to Alan’s house and the end of an enjoyable ride, so enjoyable that I had to return to the MacDonald Arms for several pints and to tell Jim and Donald of the days trip.
