Carsaig To Beach 14 Miles

Heading towards Bunessan, drive past the Carsaig road end and go maybe a mile till you find somewhere suitable to park. "This just gives you a warm up before you hit the hill”. At the junction turn right and head up the hill towards Carsaig. Stay on the main road for 2.6 miles,  just as you start to head down hill there is a track on your right that runs for 1/3 of a mile to a sheep fank, go through the wall and left across the burn and follow the track round the corner of the hill.

After that just follow along the track along the cliff top “Not to close to the edge it’s a long way down” for 4 miles until you get to the highest point Ghorrie’s leap at 1000 feet. From here head down hill, there is a quad track but its hard to find the start if you cant find it if you look down you will see a ruin just head for that and you should find the track on the way down.

From the ruin follow the track up to the gate go through and head along the track through the forest for a mile until you come to the forest road then it’s a fast 2 mile downhill with a gate and ford half way back down to the main road. Turn right onto the main road and its back to where ever you left the car…

At the end you will find a quad track follow this for a mile keeping the fence on your left until you come to the top of the hill. Head down the hill and turn left at the bottom follow the track along to the ruin From the ruin follow the track up to the gate go through and head along the track through the forest for a mile until you come to the forest road then it’s a fast 2 mile downhill with a gate and ford half way back down to the main road. Turn left onto the main road for the 6 mile ride back to Bunessan…

Coast To Coast Tobermory to Lochbuie 30 Miles

Although I have said this is 30 miles unless you have somebody picking you up at the finish it is 34 miles back by the road to Tobermory. Anyway this one starts from the town clock on Tobermory main street and heads up the Eas Brae to the round about and go right over the bridge and follow the road for half a mile to the next crossroads and take the road to Dervaig for 3.75 miles passing the Mishnish lochs on your left. At the end of the lochs is a hill with a crash barrier down the side with a forest road turning left at the bottom the signs says Loch Frisa. The road runs for 8 miles along the side of Loch Frisa joining onto the main road at the top of Aros hill.

Take a right onto the main road and follow it for 3.8 miles along the single track road joining onto the double road carrying on until you come to the double bridges. On your right there is a rough road heading up into Glenforsa take for 3.7 miles through a couple of gates over a bridge until you come to a gate into the forest (Its 3.9 miles from her on through to the main road) the road carries on from the gate for a couple of miles then goes onto a track then kind of peters out from there on you just have to make your way through to the road at the other side carrying /pushing the bike.

Depending on the time of year its easer to stay on the high side of the fence until you spot the forest track on your left. When you reach the main road turn right and follow it for 2.2 miles to the top of the hill with the three lochs down on your left. You now have a 3.4 mile leg through to the main road at Lochbuie.

Make your way down to the right of the middle loch where you will find a boggy track follow this track to the end of the loch and cross over the river to find the track again running down the left side of the 3rd loch. From here on you just follow the track down through the glen until you join onto the main road turning left for the last ¾ miles to the cairn by the shore at Lochbuie……
