1st - ISLE OF MULL 10 MILE TIME TRIAL

This Sunday (13-08-06) saw a Huge Turn Out for the Time Trial.
The weather was kind and the wind not too bad.

Dave Beer and Myself (Jim) arrived at Salen in Bryce's van, me with a hangover and Dave with a pair of the longest shorts in the world.

At 09.30 and as we Passed the Salen Hotel I happened to See Crawford's Employee Gerry who owns the hotel. He informed me that Crawford would not be taking part. He had been drinking until 4am in the morning and had to escorted home after attempting a pole dance with a mop handle.

We had a laugh and I thought that was another one who will not make it... BUT!!screaming towards us came Crawford on his bike, still in his Pyjamas!
The David Beckam of the Cycling World looked Cool... mmmm I thought, there could be problems here...

When we arrived Bruce was there as usual... "Mr Reliable". Thank you Bruce...

The police and chief Photographer arrived in the Shape of "P.C. D.MaCuish",
ex Cyclist and ex Cake Connoisseur!

Next to arrive was the Parker Cycle Team in their own Team van...

Allan did not look happy as he had made up a valid excuse not do this as he was marshalling at the Mull Half Marathon, but me calling him a wimp seemed to have some effect.

Jackie set up her trainer and started peddling. You don't get calf muscles like that by sitting about all day doing nothing!

Davie made 2 attempts to drive down... the first without shoes, the second with shoes.

Young Allan appeared with his mother in tow. She had panniers on her bike full of sandwiches in case her boy got hungry.

The Yellow Peril Allan appeared looking like he had Just been scooped out of a bowl of custard and still bleary eyed after being out working until 0400 hrs.

So we all had our excuses ready before blast off.

We set of at 2 min intervals and from a spectators point of view we probably looked like a scene from a famous 5 novel. No one was sick ....but it was close !!

At the end of it all we all had some story to tell, but I think points should be taken off Crawford for Cheating. Taking drugs until 0400 hrs in the morning is not on especially as he beat me and went on to do the half marathon, becoming the first entrant to do the Mull Duathlon.

Davie as usual ran amuck on his ....Wonder futuristic space (secret engine bike... but at least admitted he was knackered.

There was a bit of trouble at the end when we all had to be stripped searched when Bruce discovered one of his Safety pins where missing.

Anyway here are the results...
Dave Beer. Jacquie Hinge, Allan Parker and Allan and his Mum did this on mountain bikes so that reflects there times.

Davie Graham 26.45
Crawford White 28.03
Jim Keenan 28.24
Alan Noble 31.18
Alan Parker 37.57
Dave F 42.30
Dave Beere 46.00
Jackie 52.05

Jamie from Glengorm had Bike failure and sent his apologies but we think he was just scared when he heard Jacquie would be taking part.

Graham Horne sent apologies as he had a work emergency.

Next Time trial will be mountain bikes only, and we expect a bigger turn out.

There will be a mountain bike time trial next Sunday (27th August 2006)
Time and course to be arranged.

Will keep you posted.
