FIRST 2007 ISLE OF MULL TIME TRIAL

Anyone who has ever went out for a gentle ride with WEEC will understand just how much restraint it must have taken the photographer not just kick him back down!!!!

First there where lots of excuse of Hangovers and Colds etc, tut tut.

This is not an excuse, remember that "The Gibbo" only does races when he has hangovers and McInnis always has the cold... when someone else has it...

Six members turned up and most of them had to have mechanical help from "The Bladder" before we could even get moving.

Dave Beere appeared on his new bike... You should have seen the look on his face when he saw us still at the crossroads 30 minutes after we where all supposed to meet! He thought he would have dodged us... and wished he had.;-)) Shell shocked is a complete understatement!

Our two latest Members "Alasdair Armstrong Currie" and "Grant the Chain Snapper Williams" where whirling around and making us nervous with new cycle tops and designer glasses and bits hanging off their bikes. Shake that cold off Robbie you have competition!

The one thing missing was a... HELMET. This has to be rectified.

After Donald initiating the usual "Jim Slagging Competition" we headed off to Ardmore with Donald frantically trying to change the route to something less hilly, but McInnis won the day when it looked as if he might start crying...

We got to the start and warmed up... McInnis was talking so much we where doing Cycle dancing to the sound of him a sort of Bicycle 2 step. Anyway, Bruce lost the head and after shouting at us we lined up.

BANG!! of we went. Well no not really, Bruce shouted on yir marks go... With a cloud of dust we headed off grunting groaning the sound of metal chains twisted derailleur's the whistle of the wind up Dave's shorts and some strange noise coming from Donald's Rucksack?...sounded like a chicken?

Allan and myself watched McInnis disappear to a little dot on the horizon Grant was trying to nudge people out and off the road and then we realised that Ali Armstrong was in front of us and making us work like mad.

"He will burn out" said Allan Yes I thought better warn him... pace yourself Ali... "ok" he said... This gave us the opportunity to zoom by him!! He He...

We headed down to the ruins at Penalbanach and on to Ardmore shore the mud and tree roots slowed me down and suddenly Allan disappeared like a bullet and trying to shove me into a ditch I could not believe the speed he went down but he was going so fast he missed the turn off to head up the hill so that reeled him in a bit.

We turned off into thick muddy gloop for a few hundred yard and then popped out to a long climb home Allan and myself had a Titanic battle on the hill... But my hill climbing abilities and the fact he had a 30 lb full susser under his arse worked against him!

As I turned the last climb and looked down to see Ali Armstrong taking Allan on the Corner and thought yes he will burn up...

This was a hard race I kid you not and everyone who did it felt it. Congratulations to Dave Beere for giving it a go and to Donald for hanging in when he would rather have been elsewhere. And especially to Bruce for timekeeping again and to "Blue Peter" for the inspiration it gave Bruce to produce his home made time keeping umbrella.

I tell you there is never a Dull moment in the "Isle of Mull Cycle Club".

Robbie has new shoes spds, Grant new Jersey, Ali New Jersey and I can see the day coming when they reach their peak and get the right to wear the BIG YELLOW WINDPROOF.

Jim
