BURMA ROAD TRIP - Avimore

Alan and Wullie, just like little house on the Praire

For our now annual trip away we, Jim, Wullie and Alan headed to Aviemore for an attempt at the Burma road route made famous by the Gibbo over the years.

Why it is called the Burma road you may ask? Well the answer is.. I don’t know! but Jim would have made some story up no doubt...

The road runs from Aviemore to Aviemore in a west heading loop clockwise from the town. The Route is about 42 km and 900m of climbing. For you oldies out there that equates to about 30 miles and 2700 ft!

All agreed would have been funnier if he fell in water

Again W Blue shows JK how to do it

Pretty much all Land Rover track with a good surface. Weather was great for it on the day, but the day before was awful... mind you the day after was worse!

The day got off to a good start when we hit the first climb.. talk about steep! This was a WeeC Special! We eventually made it to the top with a great view down over  "Loch Alvie" and "Loch Insch" but it was very exposed so we didn’t linger.

WeeC Again came up with great accomodation...

The hard work was now over as no real climbs now and we had a good long run down the other side and into remote open country. Wullie, honking now, the weight of his bike means it goes down hills very fast...  I managed a puncture on the way down but WeeC was on hand with sound advice and his impressive mini pump, I said I would have to buy one as well... though somehow saying that WeeC actually has something useful in his kitbag, is hard to admit...

WeeC Showing The Incorrect way as usual...

Eventually we came into woodland which we followed to the main road again, which we crossed and joined some single track into Aviemore and then back to the van.

We All Know How This Will End...

It was a long day but very enjoyable, the weather and scenery were first rate and we all said we would be back though Wullie said in future we would plan it better as he missed his visit to the MacDonald Arms... it being a Friday...

You can take man into the wilderness, but not away from his Fish & Chips!
